Hopper bird feeders are a great one size fits all wild bird feeder. The feeder tray is typically wide providing the advantage of multiple birds being able to feed at the same time. Many types of birds are happy to feed side-by-side such as chickadees, blue jays, sparrows, cardinals, finches and woodpeckers. Often birds will scatter some of the seed onto the ground attracting ground-feeding birds such as juncos, doves, and towhees. Almost any kind of seed can be used so you can customize your mix to the birds you would like to attract.
Hopper feeders are simple to load and easy to maintain. Fill the hopper with seed and gravity will pull the seed down into the tray. As birds eat, more seed will slip down into the tray. Hopper feeders often have large reservoirs that do not need to be refilled as often as other feeders. They can be hung from a variety of hooks and poles or mounted to tree branches or fences.
